Grub Kitchen & Bar is a trendy Burger and Bar spot that feels best suited for the after-work happy hour crowd. The décor is nice with the bar as the centerpiece to the dinning room, and there is a comfortable patio out back that looks over a walking trail.
The menu is mostly burgers, with a few appetizers, salads and other sandwiches. Along with a full-bar and fountain drinks, they also offer milkshakes as well as a few spiked shakes for those that like to put an adult twist on a childhood favorite.
If you want to kick-up the beef, you can request a wagyu patty for a $3 upcharge, and if you don’t want beef, you can also select turkey, salmon or a Beyond patty, again for an upcharge. They also have a gluten-free bun for those needing or wanting to avoid wheat products.
I chose the You’re My Boy Blue, which includes bleu cheese, cracked peppercorn, caramelized onions, tomato and spinach. The dominant flavors, as one might imagine, were the bleu cheese and the onions. Both were very good, albeit a little sloppy to eat.
Unless you prefer otherwise, the burgers are cooked to a medium-well, which does make for a juicier burger, and added to the sloppiness as well. The spinach added a little crunch, but not much to the taste, and the tomato just added to the messiness. I would omit the tomato if I order this again. The bun is firm, and mostly plain, but it held up well through all the wet items.
While the fries are pretty good, I preferred the onion rings. Crispy and firm, and the onion didn’t slide out of the breading. The crunch was really good, but did want for a sauce or ketchup, as I didn’t taste any type of seasoning in the breading.
Burger prices range from $7.29 (basic toppings) to $12.29 (wagyu) and it’s an additional $4.49 to add fries and a drink, making the average “combo” just over $13.
Overall, it’s a nice vibe, above-average burgers, and while the pricing may seem a little high, it’s competitive for their target niche.
